The past couple of weeks have been very strange. Actually, I think things started going weird sometime in December, and it only really feels like normality is starting to set in now for the first time. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that we didn’t go on holiday in December, and only really took a break now over Easter for the first time. And honestly, I cannot tell you why things have been strange, what has been strange or why I say it. It just feels like the world has been slightly off-centre for some time.

Mostly, my mind has been occupied by the following things:

  • The upcoming local government elections: I have finally decided to become politically active again, and formally joined the party that makes the most sense to me right now. This means I get to wear the official t-shirt, hand out flyers and work at one of the voting stations on election day. I thought I would start off small, but would like to eventually run for ward councillor and see where we go from there.
  • Our trip to Germany: less than 3 months to departure, and still so much to do. Actually, just need to still book our accommodation and train tickets, everything else is done. We have our Schengen visa interview on the 23rd of May, and I will book the accommodation and train tickets thereafter.

I have also been trying to separate my work from home life, so that I can stop thinking of work all the time and actually start thinking about other stuff. For this reason, I have stopped unpacking my (work) laptop in the afternoons when I get home from work, and have been using the netbook for surfing, etc. It has been taking some time to adjust, but I think I am getting the hang of it. And it has helped with my brain switching off earlier at night, so I am also sleeping better. Who knew.
